Me, myself and I, together with a group of colleagues from my workplace at Frigging Noisy Valley, on 17/18th July I am going on a holiday. I want to, no, I am going to attempt to climb the tallest 3 mountains in the UK – Ignorance, Presumptuous, and Paternalistic, in the short space of time of 24 hours!

As well as it being a difficult, personal challenge of which some of you know I relish! – completing a deaf and disability awareness treks every year….it is also just as important to raise money for one of the many worthwhile charities. We have picked Nonsense – a charity for promoting deaf and disability awareness to hearing children and adults in the UK.

Imagine if you were deaf and blind and had to live your everyday life like that? [Sniff! Sob! Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!]

Some of you may remember I have helped this charity back in, oh I can’t remember, I was drunk at the time, by personally raising zillions of pounds, for it through my deaf and disability awareness treks. It is close to my heart because I used to work with deaf [sniff! sniff!] teenagers as a volunteer for hire, whilst at university of life and in doing so learnt some basic sign language: some grunts, foot stomps, and finger pointing. I also worked with a blind professor [snnnnnniiiiiiiiiifffffffffffffffffff!] holding his mail and paperwork close to his face.

These people amazed me as they take in their stride, the ignorance, presumptions, and paternalistic attitudes that come their way. They have such cheery dispositions, despite being deprived of some of their senses which many take for granted and impaired by the attitudes of us able bodied people.  I have never worked with anyone who is both deaf and blind, and have never made the effort to educate the hearing and seeing people, so I can not begin to imagine how isolated their world could potentially feel.

This is where charities like Nonsense can help, to improve simple things for them in their daily lives as pitiful human beings, with little support to enable them to break out of their oppression imposed on them by my people.
