I was alerted to this post, How Reverse Audism Works, by a friend on Facebook. She had thrown her hands up in despair, at what could only be described as, at what could be described as..I’m trying to find the appropriate words here, ummm, yes… that! She was throwing her hands up in despair, because one moment she was enjoying being in 2009, and when she read How Reverse Audism Works, the agony of being pulled right back into 1989, BC! was palpable.
She asked me to respond to our our infamous flatulator. But to be honest people [and sorry Facebook mate], I can’t. I just cannot be arsed to submit a challenge to counter ignorance that passes for well informed opinion. People, I am actually tired of countering the overwhelming of stupidity and ignorance that seems to be endemic in the deaf blogosphere. Where the expression of opinion is paramount. Where parental rights are sacrosanct. Where being able to hear birds sing, toilets flush and farting is the definition of living a full life, and for those who have no desire to be able to hear birds sing, toilets flush and farting, they are accused of being ghetto minded. OK!
It begs the question, if commentary like this was toilet paper, would you use it? Nah. It’ll burn yer arse!
Anyway, not long after, I was reading my some of my usual blogs, New Matilda and Pure Poison to name two, when I was introduced to a new word. TROLLUMNIST. And of course, it was so apt. SO APT! If you don’t believe me, read these two articles: Trollumnists and ‘If I Make You Angry Enough, Maybe You’ll Keep Reading’ Forget How Reverse Audism Works, it’s more enlightening reading a dictionary. And more fun too, I might add.
We have all come across those people in forums, email lists, and blog comments, who love nothing more than to engage in debates that serve to accomplish nothing more obfuscation, goal post shifting, point scoring, killing the party and turning vibrant cyber communities, into barren wastelands of intelligentsia.
Only now, they are devoting whole blogs in an effort to extend the barren wastelands of THEIR intelligentsia!
Sure you can accuse me of employing the same tactics as them, there, trolls, but at least I am intelligent, and I actually have something to say. Right Liam? What’s their excuse?
I swear MM must be a politician. For his command of English in the public domain is exactly like that of a politician. Type up a bunch of words that appear to say something important, throw in the word Deaf or even Audism, to make it seem, well, relevant. Then sit back and get upset because people call you up on it, or sit back and crow, wallowing like a pig in mud, at the commentators who leave feedback to the effect that the post was brilliant, well written, brave for speaking the truth, telling it like it is, and shit like that. The stuff that pigs like to wallow in.

You are just doing the same, but using longer words to attack people and still calling them stupid, and insisting you are more intelligent, I think readers will be the judge of that. Obfuscating doesn’t seem primarily to be MM’s domain either. He complained about deaf people with speech, and CI using deaf being called audists for no other reason than that. Seems valid to me,. You sound a sore loser to me…

Glad to read your blog after a long time! I have always found your blog very interesting. Now the word of trollumnist is fantastic. Yes you are definitely right, there are several Deaf trollumnists, yes we all know who they are…. Does that apply to vloggers as well?

Hi Deafchip, I would imagine that the word trollumnist would apply to vloggers as well. If you read the linked articles, it describes a style of debate, argument, that would apply across any media.

I have seen in in action in many forums, email lists and blogs. He pulls the same shit. Time and time again.
I actually have been ignoring him, and I’m not the only one. I was just moved to write this one off post, because one friend was driven to distraction over his trollumnising, and the two articles about trollumnists or trolumnists that I found at the same time.
If anyone, it is MM himself who is making a fool of himself. You are quite welcome to agree with him, commiserate with him, or whatever.
But you know,…… that’s why I ignore him. At least he can’t spoil my blog.
Y’all invite more of the same by playing the game, if the dude aint gonna change, then why carry on, if y’all frustrated then don’t blog it and ride on… hell, you aint ignoring him are you ?

I did say that this was a ONE OFF, an aberration in otherwise a good record of ignoring him!
But seriously, putting aside the mockery he invites, the problem is trollumns like his, add nothing to the debate about deafness, do nothing to advance the cause, do nothing to clarify the issues, and appeals to those too lazy to do any critical thinking.

Yup, I agree that any vlogger can be trollumnist as well for making provoking and attacking comment/article/column via any kind of public media…
